Troubleshooting COCBH v4.31 DHCP Issues with OPTUS Modems: Static IP Workaround and Firmware Upgrade Solutions

Troubleshooting COCBH v4.31 DHCP Issues with OPTUS Modems: Static IP Workaround and Firmware Upgrade Solutions

Troubleshooting guide for: COCBH v4.31 DHCP issue with OPTUS modems (169.254.x.x / no lease). If firmware upgrade is not immediately available, a static IP workaround is effective.

Quick decision flow

  • Firmware ≤4.31 + OPTUS modem + 169.254.x.x shown → Upgrade hub to 4.35+ first. If upgrade not possible on-site → set static IP on the hub.

  • Firmware ≥4.35 → Proceed with normal DHCP. If still failing, use static IP as a temporary workaround then escalate.

1) Summary / Symptoms

  • Applies to iZone Smart Hub: COCB/COCBH on firmware v4.31 with OPTUS supplied modem/routers.

  • Symptoms: Hub does not obtain a DHCP lease, shows 169.254.xx.xx (APIPA) or appears offline; Globe LED not illuminated; iZone Home app not working.

2) Root Cause

Confirmed incompatibility in COCBH v4.31 with DHCP on some OPTUS routers. Later firmware resolves the issue.

3) Fix Options (in order)

A. Preferred fix: Use an up-to-date hub (v4.35+)

  • Preferred fix: use or provide a newer hub (COCB/COCBH) on firmware v4.35 or later. If that cannot be done immediately, proceed to the static IP workaround below.

B. Workaround: Assign a Static IP to the hub

Goal: Place the hub on an unused static IP outside the router’s DHCP pool; set gateway and DNS to the router’s LAN IP.

Network templates (examples)

How to find X: Look at the router/gateway IP or any connected device’s IP and use the third number. Examples: gateway 192.168.0.1 → X=0; device 192.168.20.15 → X=20; gateway 10.0.1.1 → X=1.

  • For 192.168.x.x networks:

    • IP Address: 192.168.X.251

    • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

    • Gateway: 192.168.X.1

    • Primary DNS: 192.168.X.1

  • For 10.0.x.x networks:

    • IP Address: 10.0.X.251

    • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

    • Gateway: 10.0.X.1

    • Primary DNS: 10.0.X.1

On the OPTUS modem, optionally shrink the DHCP pool so that .251 is outside of it (e.g. pool .2–.250; static .251). Exact UI varies by model.

Steps on Nova / Nova Mini

Note: These steps require Installer Mode. If you are an installer, enter Installer Mode first. If you are a customer or end user, contact iZone support or your installer to perform these steps.

  1. Installers: enter Installer Mode, then follow: Menu → Settings → System → tap Hub ID → IP Address → IP Configuration. Customers/end users: contact iZone support or your installer to perform these steps.

  2. Change from Auto/DHCP to Manual/Static.

  3. Enter IP, Subnet, Gateway, DNS as per your LAN (see templates above).

  4. Press Set; the hub will reset and apply settings.

Steps on Nexus / Nano

  1. Go to Settings/Config and enter installer password: wamfud

  2. Open the System tab → WiFi Bridge/Hub configuration → select MANUAL.

  3. Enter IP, Subnet, Gateway, DNS per the LAN template above and save; the hub will reset.

4) Verification

  • Confirm the hub appears in the router’s wired devices list at the configured static IP.

  • Wait a couple of minutes, then check the hub’s Globe LED illuminates.

  • Close and reopen the iZone Home app; verify local and cloud control works.
